Privacy notice

Who we are

Silver Horizon Digital is a software development studio based in South Africa. We are the “responsible party” for the personal information described in this notice.

What we collect

We only collect personal information that you choose to send us, for example when you email us about a project. This usually includes your name, email address, the name of your organisation and anything you include in your message.

This website does not set cookies. Like any website, our hosting provider automatically processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and keep the service secure.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-focused service that sets no cookies, does not use local storage or fingerprinting and does not track you across other sites. It gives us aggregate statistics, such as page views, referring sites, country and device type, so we can understand how the site is used. It does not tell us who you are.

Why we use it

• To reply to your enquiry and discuss your project.
• To prepare a scope and quote, and to deliver and support work you ask us to do.
• To keep basic business records and meet our legal obligations.
• To understand, in aggregate, how our website is used so we can improve it.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for marketing unless you ask us to keep you updated (for example, about our own apps).

Our legal basis

Under POPIA we process your information because you have given it to us and asked us to respond, because it is needed to take steps towards or perform a contract with you, because of our legitimate interest in running and protecting our business, or because the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep your information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above. Enquiries that do not lead to a project are deleted within 24 months. Records relating to projects and invoices are kept for as long as tax and other laws require.

Who we share it with

We only share personal information with service providers who help us run the business, and only as far as they need it:

• Google Workspace, our email provider, which stores the emails you send us.
• Cloudflare, our website hosting provider, which processes technical information when you visit this site, including for Cloudflare Web Analytics.

Cross-border transfers

Our email and hosting providers operate globally, so your information may be stored or processed outside South Africa. We use established providers that are bound by data protection terms offering a level of protection comparable to POPIA, as section 72 of the Act requires.

How we keep it safe

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including access limited to those who need it, multi-factor authentication on our accounts and encrypted connections. If we become aware of a security compromise affecting your information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

• ask whether we hold personal information about you, and request access to it;
• ask us to correct or update information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
• ask us to delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep;
• object to us processing your information, including for direct marketing;
• lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).
